Bewitching Bat Cake
Prep time: 1.5 Hours
Yields: 18 Servings
3 boxes of your favorite cake mix
Orange food coloring
1 tube Cake Mate® Black Tube Icing
1 tube Cake Mate® Orange Tube Icing
1 jar Cake Mate® Black Sugar
1 of your favorite bat shaped cookie cutter
STEP 1 Prepare each cake box mix in separate bowls.
STEP 2 Using 8-inch pans, bake 3 round cakes according to the directions on the box.
STEP 3 Place bottom layer face-up on a cake stand, plate, or thin cake board. Spread and smooth White Decorating Icing Pouch using a knife or spatula on top only. Repeat with second cake layer.
STEP 4 Place 3rd round cake on top of the second cake.
STEP 5 Frost top and all sides with White Decorating Pouch.
STEP 6 Using Cake Mate Orange Tube Icing and a #3 tip, apply diagonal lines starting from the top of the cake to the bottom of the cake, maintaining approximately 1 inch between lines.
*EXPERT TIP Use a ruler to mark straight lines on your cake before you apply the frosting lines. Simply press the edge of the ruler into the frosting to leave a light mark.
STEP 7 Using Cake Mate Orange Tube Icing and a #3 tip, apply diagonal lines starting from the top of the cake to the bottom of the cake, going in the opposite direction to form criss-cross lines.
STEP 8 Using Cake Mate Black Tube Icing and a #3 tip, place tiny dots where the orange lines intersect.
STEP 9 Using Cake Mate Black Tube Icing and a #5 tip, trim the top of the cake with round black dots to form a border.
STEP 10 Using Cake Mate Black Tube Icing and a #12 tip, trim the bottom of the cake with round black dots to form a border.
STEP 11 To create small bats on the side of the cake, use Cake Mate Black Tube Icing and a #3 tip to draw simple bats.
STEP 12 To create the larger bat on top of the cake, lightly place your favorite bat cookie cutter in the desired location.
STEP 13 Using Cake Mate’s Black Sugar, sprinkle into the bat cookie cutter to get the desired shimmering bat shape effect. Remove bat cookie cutter.
